Nigara
Nigara Forging Co., Ltd. is one of Japan’s most prestigious swordsmith lineages, carrying on a legacy of craftsmanship spanning 350 years.
Since the early Edo period, when the Tsugaru Domain first commissioned the forging of swords, the tradition has been meticulously passed down through generations. The Tsugaru region itself has been a center of ironworking since the Heian period, with large-scale steel production, making it one of Japan’s foremost hubs for the steel industry.
As a distinguished Tsugaru Uchihamono lineage entrusted with sword-making by the Tsugaru Domain, Nigara has produced legendary master swordsmiths, including the late Kunitoshi Nigara, a figure of great renown. Over the years, Nigara has received numerous awards and the esteemed honor of crafting dedicatory swords for the Ise Grand Shrine and Meiji Shrine.
Today, their kitchen knives, forged with the same time-honored techniques, are highly esteemed by professional chefs both in Japan and around the world, elevating the culinary arts with their unparalleled sharpness and precision.
